Behind the Sticks | Episode 16: Summer Sustainability Tips from our Co-Founder Jenn

Sustainability is an everyday practice we should all try to incorporate into our lives. At trèStiQue, we’ve taken our first step into long-term sustainability practices with the launch of our new Sustainable Le Pak makeup bags! Consumer products greatly contribute to the amount of plastic waste we produce on the planet. In an effort to reduce the amount of plastic we send to the ocean, we’ve made 100% of the outer shell of our new Clean Ocean Collection bags from one recycled plastic bottle. With sustainability being at the front of my mind, I wanted to share with you my 5 easy tips for a more sustainable lifestyle!

1. Recycle Back to the Brand

Some companies have programs that allow you to send their products back once used, so they can properly recycle them. For example, we drink coffee almost every day in my household and Nespresso has a UPS recycling program, where you can send back your coffee capsules to have a second life as new products! If there is a product you use regularly, it’s worth checking out their website to see if they offer a send-back program or have any recycling tips!

2. Cloth Bags Are Your New Best Friend -

I use reusable cloth bags for everything! From grocery shopping to carrying my kid’s things, cloth bags are a great way to reduce our dependence on single-use plastics as well as our consumption of these plastics. You can keep a few in your car or fold one up and keep it in your purse, so that you are never without one!

3. Bring a Reusable Water Bottle -

Save recycled plastic bottles for our bags and keep your drinks in a reusable water bottle! I prefer metal ones as they keep my drinks at the perfect temperature all day long. My favorite reusable water bottles are from Hydro Flask and Klean Kanteen.

4. Use Packing Material for Crafts -

I’ve been coming up with a lot of ways to keep my children busy since they’ve been home. Lately, I’ve had the idea to repurpose packing boxes and materials for kid crafts! You can cut them up to create something new or use them as a canvas and color them. We also use them to plant seedlings! The possibilities are endless :).

5. Start a Garden -

Gardening lets me connect with nature in a tangible way. It's is a great activity that everyone can indulge in no matter where you live! Whether it’s a windowsill herb garden or takes up your whole backyard, it’s an easy way to commit to sustainability and be more in touch with our environment. Also, it allows you to spend less time in the grocery store!
